| #2 For lifers, any combat time, of any kind, is a career enhancement. Even the little countries will have some motivated folks trying to get in. We'll see what the results will be, when circumstances separate the warriors from the ticket-punchers. |

| #1 Note that the article quotes a NATO official as saying that only 2% of Eureopean troops are usable and deployable and that European militaries "pathetically ill-equipped for the world we foresee." Not very comforting, although it seems pretty hard on the Brits, who seem to me to be hanging very tough despite the MOD reducing their combat equipment to slingshots. |
