[Dawn] At least ten people were killed when two boomers exploded at a major shrine "Abdullah Shah Ghazi" in the port city of Karachi late Thursday, a senior government official told AFP. Fifteen people were also injured, a local news channel reported. "Seven people have died including one woman," provincial home minister Zulfikar Mirza said. He gave no further details saying that an investigation was underway. Senior police officer Azhar Ali earlier said the bombs went off at the entrance of the shrine to Sufi saint Abdullah Shah Ghazi in Karachi's seaside Clifton district. Another police official, Mohammad Nasim, said the bombs exploded inside the shrine compound. "We are collecting details and we fear the casualties may rise," he said. The blasts took place when the shrine was packed with devotees for weekly Thursday night gathering, police said. |
