| #4 For the next two decades, the Iraqi air force will be as good as their US advisors let them be, from piloting to logistics to maintenance. Which will be precisely what keeps Iranian and Syrian air force generals up at night. |

| #2 I'm a little more optimistic. The US decided to create the Iraqi AF from the ground up. So its most senior people are maintenance, airbase operations and cargo logistics. Soon its most *junior* personnel will be its combat pilots. That is the exact opposite of the USAF. But it also means that if the base commander is a maintenance guy, there is going to be a LOT more emphasis on maintenance. |
