Severe Water Shortage In China
2010-09-14
Doing everything wrong causes problems for China and all the countries downstream. Floods where there's an uncontrolled excess, drought and dust storms where there's a lack, and pollution of all of it. Hopefully China will outgrow this stage soon.

#5  CHINESE MILITARY FORUM > CLIMATE CHANGE COULD MAKE CANADA INTO A WORLD POWER:GEOGRAPHER [by Year 2050 as per UCLA Scientist-Pert Laurence Smith].

Due to:

* Escalating or intensifying CLIMATE CHANGE = GLOBAL WARMING.
* Growths in Country, Human Population.
* LOOMING RESOURCE(S) SHORTAGES.
* GLOBAL ECON INTEGRATION [Have Food, Jobs, Safety/No Floods, Will Travel = LABOR MIGRATIONS].

** Also from SAME > CHINA'S GREAT FIREWALL | CHINA'S RULERS ARE AFRAID OF A BOOK.

-----------

PAKISTANI DEFENCEFORUM >[US-Soviet = Cold War-style]ARCTIC BATTLE BETWEEN SCOTLAND [UK] + RUSSIA, oer ARCTIC RESOURCE RIGHTS-SOVEREIGNTY???

D *** NG IT, SCOTLAND CAN'T DO THAT, DATS IRELAND'S JOB - THE SCOTTIES ARE COMING, THE SCOTTIES ARE COMING [Russians]!

#4  "More than 40% of China's population is concentrated ..... in DRY NORTH" > IOW, may be read as MILITANT FODDER [recruits].

Also, DAILY EXPRESS.UK > CLIMATE CHANGE: FAILURES OF GLOBAL WARMING PANELS "LET DOWN PUBLIC", i.e. has FAILED TO RESTORE PUBLIC TRUST-CONFIDENCE IN GW-, CLIMATE-CHANGE SCIENCE + espec its SCIENTISTS.

* C2CAM > "COLONIZING SPACE" Segment = Guest Pert JAMES MCCANNEY argued, among other, that it WILL LIKELY TAKE HUMANITY APPROXI 1000 YEARS TO TRULY MASTER THE METHODS, TECHNIQUES, + TECHS FOR SAFE, ROUTINE DEEP SPACE EXPLORATION, HABITATION + COLONIZATION IN BROAD/WIDE-SCALE [Milyuhns of Humans living in Deep Space Colonies].

IIUC, MCCANNEY is arguing that our future OWG + US-WORLDS GOVTS MUST RIGHT NOW BEGIN MAKING MASSIVE INVESTMENTS IN VARIABLE SPACE TECHNOLOGIES. Sending Men back to the Moon is not enough - the US-World must begin to study how Mankind can travel, live in Worlds' SIMILAR ANDOR NOT SIMILAR TO EARTH.

MCCANNEY > ALL THINGS EQUAL, GLOBAL WARMING + CLIMATE CHANGE = HUMANITY + US-WORLD GOVTS ARE ULTIMATELY FIGHTING "TIME" [vee potential Disaster(s) + Cataclysms].

#3  Wouldn't it be easier for the chairman to simply declare "It has Rained" and all the people say YES, that'll fix the problem.
(Well they can't exactly Pray for rain, now can they?)

#2  There's no drinking water shortage in China. The problem is that the Chinese government has made it official policy for the country to be self-sufficient in grain production. Free water for farmers (and metered water for residential communities) has meant draining aquifers to the point of no return. Stateside, I've read that water use for residences is something like 10% of total water use. I bet it's even lower in China. The problem is twofold: (1) China probably doesn't use expensive drip irrigation techniques for its crops and (2) it probably plants too many crops for the cheap water resources it has. China has access to the ocean. It can set up and use reverse osmosis plants to tap sea water to generate fresh water. The problem is that water generated by reverse osmosis isn't free, and it's certainly too expensive to use to plant grains. Bottom line is that China needs to end grain cultivation in areas where underground water resources are tapped out, and provide tax breaks for companies to relocate to those areas so that displaced farmers can be gainfully employed.

#1  But Tom Freedman said they were better than us? How could this happen.

China has money, they should have been building nuke plants and desalinization plants for the last decade or so rather than trusting the oil market.
