(Xinhua) -- Head of the anti-extremist police department of the North Caucasus Federal District was killed on Sunday in the Russian southern republic of Dagestan.Gapal Gadzhiyev was shot dead in his Toyota Avensis car at the crossing of the Chernyshevsky and Pervomaiskaya streets at 11:20 a.m. Moscow time (0720 GMT) in the regional capital of Makhachkala.
Investigation and search for the assailants were underway, said news agencies.
