12 US Soldiers Accused Of War Crimes
2010-09-09
Twelve American soldiers face charges over a secret "kill team" that allegedly blew up and shot Afghan civilians at random and collected their fingers as trophies.

Five of the soldiers are charged with murdering three Afghan men who were allegedly killed for sport in separate attacks this year. Seven others are accused of covering up the killings and assaulting a recruit who exposed the murders when he reported other abuses, including members of the unit smoking hashish stolen from civilians.

In one of the most serious accusations of war crimes to emerge from the Afghan conflict, the killings are alleged to have been carried out by members of a Stryker infantry brigade based in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan.

#10  Sorry RJ/Markee, Finger tips are collected to send 'back home' for prints. The entire phalange is sent so there is something to hold while printing, and the larger knuckles are easier to separate.

Marke, I don't know how it is in your world, but here there would only be one per victim.

#6  Hey Jim, isn't that what some of the Arab units did to the Israel soldiers they killed in the first couple wars they had? I have a book that talks about some of the units bragging about the number of ears or some thing they collected of the Jews.

#5  No Gorb, the tradition is to string the fingers as a necklace and wear them around the neck, makes them look Fierce.

#1  The charges will be considered by a military grand jury ..

There is no military grand jury in the American system. There is an Article 32 investigation conducted by a 'disinterested' officer as appointed by the command. Disinterested is meant as someone who has no duty or non-duty related interaction/business with the individuals and the unit in which the events occurred.
