In an effort to keep copyright trolls from overrunning the Burg (and gobbling up all the money in sight) I've cut the display on archived material -- consisting of anything that's not the current day -- to only the headlines and comments if you're not a regular poster or an editor. I hated to do this, because I know there are people and organizations that use the Burg as a research tool. That's what it's designed and built for, after all. But there are at least two copyright mining operations working now and no guarantee there won't be more in the future. Even if a suit is frivolous you still have to defend or you lose by default. I've instituted the "Members" category to allow non-posting researchers and regular non-posters access to our content. Membership doesn't cost anything, there's no spam list, and there's no obligation. Submit a blank comment to set your cookie and all should be back to normal, but only for us. Not them. Bastards. |

#44 Does this mean we should start posting all our racist, hate speech on Daily Kos, DU and HuffPo instead? |

#41 Obama, 29 May 2009 - Cyber Security Link "So cyberspace is real. And so are the risks that come with it. It's the great irony of our Information Age -- the very technologies that empower us to create and to build also empower those who would disrupt and destroy. And this paradox -- seen and unseen -- is something that we experience every day. It's about the privacy and the economic security of American families. We rely on the Internet to pay our bills, to bank, to shop, to file our taxes. But we've had to learn a whole new vocabulary just to stay ahead of the cyber criminals who would do us harm -- spyware and malware and spoofing and phishing and botnets. Millions of Americans have been victimized, their privacy violated, their identities stolen, their lives upended, and their wallets emptied. According to one survey, in the past two years alone cyber crime has cost Americans more than $8 billion. I know how it feels to have privacy violated because it has happened to me and the people around me. It's no secret that my presidential campaign harnessed the Internet and technology to transform our politics. What isn't widely known is that during the general election hackers managed to penetrate our computer systems. To all of you who donated to our campaign, I want you to all rest assured, our fundraising website was untouched. (Laughter.) So your confidential personal and financial information was protected." |

#40 I'm not terribly surprised by this development. My only concern is that we'll see this information being used for political purposes. I'm cookied, but cannot access the full archive. |

#39 It shouldn't surprise anyone. Anybody who has anything even slightly critical to say about Bambi is labeled as a threat and is summarily attacked. How many hundreds of others have we seen this happen to, its just the Burg's turn. Short of flat out hate speech or threats to his nibs, I don't think there is much they can do about any of it. They're getting paid to monitor, let them monitor. And go piss up a rope. |

#33 The hour is late and this is Fred's domain, but I cannot rest without stating the blindingly obvious. We really do need to monitor what we say on these blogs, and that goes for myself as well. I honestly believe we may have entered into another, entirely new dimension. |

#20 I'd like to recommend smoking in the cigar, cigarette and hookah lounge and bar only, not in the locker room, dining room, greenhouse or spa-solarium. No glass containers in the pool, please. Special dinner requests to the kitchen at least 48 hours prior, as well as with parties larger than eight. Fish may be limited to catch of the day. Also please insure that POWs do not have a round in the chamber and are on safe at all times in the clubhouse. Use of the firing range is at your own risk. Courtesy hearing protection is available. If you drink, don't drive, don't even putt, and there is a $50 a hole limit on all golf course wagering. Guests should be issued name tags at the front desk, and there is a strict rule about no journalists or recording devices or cameras without prior approval. Be sure to properly display your parking sticker on your vehicle. The concierge requests that guests do not goose the staff, and to remind us that the exotic dancers are professionals, so you should not attempt to imitate their moves without permission from your doctor, as injury may result. Do not brawl with the club swans. They will win. Boathouse hours are posted. |

#17 I know about 'Righthaven'. What's the other one? Righthaven doesn't mine the data. They possibly use Attributor, and Cyveillance. Reuters and AP both use Attributor, which uses its mining ops to sell licenses, while Cyveillance appears to a contract data mining operation. ( Dunno if they are being used or not ) However, http://www.presteligence.com is directly tied to Stephens Media and is most likely their main mining operation. If you are interested, I have included in the Stephens Media Blocklist I maintain a list of IPs used by Stephen Media and associated media including possible mining companies. |

This would not ruin the experience for most readers, but would help confuse the machine spiders from the greedy soul suckers. |
