| PM says end of US combat restores Iraq sovereignty |

| Iraq's prime minister says the end of American combat operations is an important step toward restoring Iraqi sovereignty. Prime Minster Nouri al-Maliki said Tuesday in a televised address that relations with the U.S. were entering a new phase between two sovereign countries. He spoke on what the U.S. has deemed its final day of combat operations in Iraq. Starting Wednesday, the remaining 50,000 American troops will be focused on advising the Iraqi forces although they will still be able to protect themselves and their bases. Vice President Joe Biden is in Iraq to commemorate the official end of combat operations. |
