The Bushes do it Again - Surprises "Run for the Fallen" |
2010-08-27 |
![]() If you are not familiar with the Run for the Fallen, from their home page: On the weekend of August 21/22, 2010, we are encouraging anyone, wherever they are, to go out and run/walk one mile for a fallen service member killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Similar to our events in 2008 and 2009, we will post runs here, in order!, by state and country. Please email contact [at] runforthefallen [dot] org with information about your run. OGUNQUIT, Maine: Dozens of runners took part in the event to remember the 65 servicemen and women from Maine who have died overseas since 2001. Hundreds of people lined the streets from Ogunquit to Portland to greet the people who ran a little more than 40 miles Sunday. There was a sign at each kilometer that included a picture and biography of one of those who died. When the run ended, people gathered at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth for a lobster bake. They were surprised with a visit from former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura. They wanted to thank the runners and organizers for this tribute to the fallen. The Bushes spoke with the families of the servicemen and women who were on hand. The Bushes even posed for pictures with each of the families. |

#9 Could this be a Bush strategy.... a silent, albiet poignant contrast of humility against arrogance and evil? |

#6 Cyber Sarge: I believe at some point, there were no fewer than 30 military installation and navy ships where Clinton was advised not to visit, as his safety could not be guaranteed. As far as Jimmy goes, the USN was frightened of him, because sailors considered him a Jonah. Before visiting the Enterprise, an unlucky wave caused it and another ship to "bump", harming the other ship. Then a plane's hydraulics went out, they had to dump their munitions and crash land on the deck. |

#5 I suppose Hussein figured it was a great time to hit the golf course after all the hard work of shelving the charges this week against the terrorists who killed our USS Cole Sailors. |

#2 Loyalty and commitment goes both ways. Troops can tell a LIFER in a heart beat. |

#1 Say what you will about the man politically, he truly knows the sacrifices he asked of the military and the price they paid, and I think he feels that in his heart. With Bush at the military had a Commander-in-chief they could believe in because they had a Commander-in-chief that believed in them. Compare that to the disdainful jerk they now have who seeks only to use them without any real care or empathy or knowledge of what drives the military: Brotherhood, Honor, Duty, Country. |
