HONG KONG, May 4 (Yonhap) -- China, North Korea's most important ally, is expected to deliver a message from the United States to the secretive country amid rising tension on the Korean Peninsula, a Chinese scholar said Tuesday.
"North Korea needs to know more details about possible engagement or any other 'soft move' by the United States toward the regime," said Zhang Quanyi, an associate professor of political science at Zhejiang Wanli University in the southeastern city of Ningbo. "In this regard, the U.S. may have passed some (messages) in soft tones through China to North Korea. North Korea needs to learn about the (situation that it is in), whether it is positive or negative."
"Definitely they will discuss it. However, China might want to listen first to what the North has to say, and then give its thoughts," Zhang said. The Chinese scholar expected that Kim will try to consolidate the bilateral relations between China and North Korea. "His (visit) might have come in order to warm up relations with China. North Korea has shown uncooperative gestures on several occasions, and accordingly, the six-party talks have broken down, hurting the interests of all related parties," Zhang said. "Kim might have been invited for the opening ceremony of Shanghai Expo, and yet he was not there. He may have come also to compensate for his absence and to congratulate its closest ally," Zhang said. | ||

#1 Wehell, iff the ROK and Taiwan do indeed dev nuclear weapons in order to reduce mil reliance on the US, the "CHEONAN" SINKING MAY HAD ONLY RESULTED IN NEW NUC BARRIERS BECOM EMPLACED TO PREVENT CHIN FROM BREAKING OUT OF THE FIRST ISLAND CHAIN. MORESO IFF JAPAN PER E + OTHER REGIONAL SE ASIAN STATES ALSO DEV THEIR OWN INDIGENS NUCLEAR MIL CAPABILITIES. Chin will become sorely restricted in being able to effec project over over-the-horizon [OTH] mil power anywhere across ASIA-PACIFIC. |
