#4  The Chinese mob is a thing to behold once it gets nice and wound up. During the Boxer Rebellion, it hacked to pieces (as in dismembered) 40,000 Chinese Christians and assorted foreign clergy. During the Cultural Revolution, an estimated 1m people were killed via torture and/or starvation. Chinese internet mobs are a milk-and-water version of the offline mobs of the past, and represent progress of a kind.
