Viva Palestina en rout to El-Arish
2009-12-31
[Iran Press TV Latest] The Viva Palestina aid convoy, en route to the Gaza Strip, is set to leave Syria for the Egyptian port city of El-Arish where it might face interception by Israeli forces.

The convoy of 250 vehicles will leave Syria's Lattakia port and head for the Egyptian port city of El-Arish to enter the Gaza Strip, the official Syrian SANA news agency reported on Wednesday.

According to Zaher an-Birawi, the convoy's spokesman, the Viva Palestina faces the risk of interception by the Israeli military forces at the sea.

"Any Israeli aggression on the convoy during sailing to Egyptian El-Arish port will be condemned and will unveil the truth of its perpetrators," he said.

The convoy, which departed from London on December 6, returned to Syria on Tuesday from the Jordanian port city of al-Aqaba after the Egyptian authorities refused it permission to enter the Gaza Strip through Nuweiba.

The convoy was scheduled to deliver medical, humanitarian and educational aid to Gazans on December 27, which marks the first anniversary of Israel's three-week war against the sliver.

#7  Israel has submarines, and it's difficult to determine where a particular torpedo was manufactured after they explode. Just saying...

#6  El arish was almost 'conquered' by Gazans in 2008 after the break in the Egyptian barrier. Many of the locals have retained bad memories of that time.

here is a quote from the wikipedia entry on the subject,

"In Arish alone, Gazans spent some US$250 million over five days.[7] Palestinians and Egyptians complained about soaring prices and shortages, especially of food.[42] Enormous demand for staple products from Gaza caused rampant inflation, as did the Egyptian government's decision to restrict goods coming into the border region in an effort to encourage the Palestinians to go back home.[42] Palestinians also accused Egyptians of price gouging, where prices have risen to the point where the cost of goods is suffiently high that supply matches demand."

#5  El Arish was the scene of a devastatingly successful Israeli air strike on the first day of the 6 Day War. Just a history note, that's all. Honest.

#4  phil_b,
As I pointed out the other day, Arab maps clearly show you only have to cross Palestine to get from Syria to Egypt. So they HAVE maps, just bad ones.

Spend most or their Palestinian time sleeping in holes and doing suckasuck on their knees. A proud people.

The Palestinian state motto (its even on their flag) :Gimme. And when the Gulf Hotels in all the Emirates send some girl up to your room...its always a Palestinian.

But they sure command respect as soldiers.Yeah.

#2  Someone should send these idiots a map. You can't drive from Syria to Egypt without crossing both Jordan and Israel.

#1  What a crock of Horsesh!t'

Viva Propaganda more like it.

One part of me wants the Israelis to take them up on their dare. Destroy the whole convoy and everyone on it. To the ground.

But as always, cooler heads will prevail, and they will be denied their propaganda victory.

The Israelis should keep the convoy parked in the desert and prevent it from moving. Play a wait and see game and see who blinks first.
Usually the agitators start crying after a few days without a shower and rest room facilities.
