Kabul mayor gets four years in jug
2009-12-08
[Iran Press TV Latest] An Afghan court has sentenced the mayor of Kabul to four years in prison on corruption charges -- the first major anti-corruption move by President Hamid Karzai.

The court issued a warrant for the arrest of Mir Abdul Ahad Sahebi in absentia on Monday.

Sahebi was found guilty of misappropriation of more than $16,000 dollars of public money. The court has ordered the mayor to return the money and removed him from his post.

It was the first high-profile corruption conviction for an Afghan official since President Karzai was sworn in for a second five year term.

#4  this could be like Saudi arrests of terrorists, Paki attacks in FATA, etc. A steady but controlled flow to assuage the US.

Gates went with a list, including cabinet ministers, IIUC.

#2  Jugged despite faithfully paying his 10%. I think Hamid needed a fall guy to take the heat off, and Abdul was handy.
