France, Spain evicted from Kyrgyz air base |
2009-10-26 |
![]() Kyrgyzstan cancelled the deals in June and gave permission to the United States to continue using the Manas air base after Washington agreed to pay more to have access to it. Spain moved 60 soldiers and two Hercules C-130 aircraft stationed at the Manas base to Herat, Afghanistan on October 13, it was announced on Sunday. The 30 French servicemen stationed at Manas and their equipment were moved from the base near the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek to the Tajik capital Dushanbe, from where they are continuing their mission. However, it has been reported that France and Spain are trying to negotiate new deals that would allow them to use the Manas air base again. |

#2 That base is very valuable, and we should bribe a lot of Kyrgyz to be out buddies. It shares a heck of a lot of border with China, so should be crawling with NSA personnel with ultra-sensitive electronic surveillance gear. |

#1 Versus WMF > CHINA'S NEW NAVAL BERTHS IN THE PERSIAN GULF ARE LARGE ENOUGH TO FIT AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER(S). SAME WMF > WITHOUT UN AUTHORIZATION, A CHINESE MILITARY ATTACK AND INVASION OF SOMALIA TO FIGHT PIRACY WOULD BE AS ILLEGAL AS THE US ACTIONS IN AFGHANISTAN AND PAKISTAN. |
