Army recommends 'birther' for promotion
2009-10-21
In a stunning display of latent disrespect for President Barack Obama and a complete disregard for the good order and discipline of the U.S. Armed Forces, the Army has recommended "birther", 1LT Scott Easterling for promotion.

In February of this year, the Tennessee native joined forces with "birther" attorney Orly Taitz and wrote a widely-reported letter calling President Obama a "usurper" and "impostor" because he did not believe the President was a natural-born citizen.

At the time, many believed that 1LT Easterling had jeopardized his career and possibly his freedom for violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) which clearly prohibits publicly insulting the integrity of the President of the United States; instead he got an "administrative reprimand", also known as a slap on the wrist.

Here are excerpts from the Army's response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request submitted on September 23, 2009. The information below was provided by Major Brian J. Chapuran, Staff Judge Advocate for the 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) based at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
"Our investigation concluded that 1LT Easterling wrote the letter. 1LT Easterling never refuted that conclusion. 1LT Easterling received an administrative reprimand for violation of the UCMJ.

1LT Easterling is currently assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in the Support Operations Division.

After this incident and subsequent investigation and action, 1LT Easterling was not involved in any other incidents. As a result, his supervisors recommended him for promotion on his officer evaluation report."
In other words, he's young and impetuous, but a good soldier, and the Army can make use of him. Kudos all around.

#8  I'm sure you're not a real bigot, spanishman dear. Given the range of skin shades, religions, sexualities, native tongues and nationalities who post here, and the percentage that have or currently are serving... I'm just sure. I quite agree with what you wrote in #5, though, and want to welcome you to the Rantburg conversation. Are you really from Spain? I ask because we're not all American, either. :-)

#6  Now in our country ANYBODY says anything questioning obama and they are a racist, unpatriotic, a right winger or any other myriad names that the establishment has in their arsenal.

That's me they're referring to! And I'll wear that badge with the honor until that communist is gone or I'm dirt napping.

#5  This is why the American people ignore the mainstream media, over the entire presidency of G.H.W. Bush he was villianized, insulted, degraded, humiliated and lambasted by EVERY leftist organization. What was his response, what was his reaction, what was his comment, nothing, he took it AS A MAN with the understanding that you can NEVER make everybody happy as President. Now in our country ANYBODY says anything questioning obama and they are a racist, unpatriotic, a right winger or any other myriad names that the establishment has in their arsenal. So why should I care what this drivel says, that is written by some automaton that only writes what they are told to write, yeah great article.

#4  ..calling President Obama a "usurper" and "impostor" because he did not believe the President was a natural-born citizen.

I'm not a 'birther'. However, if the IL Donks can break the privacy of Gov. Ryan's sealed divorce decree to destroy his chances for the Senatorial seat then taken by Obama, the 'privacy' of Obama's records is forfeited as well on principle. Since we do not know have 'facts' before us, then the statements by the lieutenant can not be validated or invalidated. Short of a warrant to provide said copy of the certificate in the court of law in due process of the individual's right to defend himself, he remains innocent of any charges.

#3  Most LT's are young and impetuous. I hope this doesn't follow him to his next promotion board. By that time however, the truth should be out and he'll be a highly respected visionary and author.

In peace time military behaves like any other bureaucracy. But give them a few years of (even low intensity) conflict---and things change.

#1  Clearly a good outcome for all. The 1Lt gets a promotion and there is no discovery to be obtained were the 1LT were to be tried in court.
