Lucasian Professorship Goes to Michael Green |
2009-10-21 |
h/t Lubos String theorist Michael Green has been announced as the next Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University. Green, 63, will succeed Stephen Hawking who held the chair from 1980 before retiring last month at the age of 67 and taking up a distinguished research chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Canada. He's got five years until he, too, must relinquish the post. Good choice! |

#1 He is a string theory superstar. Great. Unlike gravitational theory or atomic theory or subatomic theory or even the physics of black holes, string theory doesn't seem to be able to make any important falsifiable theories about the world. |
