Israel OKs hundreds of new WBank settler homes
2009-09-08
[Al Arabiya Latest] Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has authorized the construction of nearly 400 new housing units in settlements in the occupied West Bank, his ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Barak has signed authorizations for 366 new units; the first such authorization since Benjamin Netanyahu's right-leaning government took office in March.

In a statement, the Defense Ministry said Barak also planned to issue more permits in the coming days and raise to 450 the total number of new homes to be built.

#5  I wish it were 4,000,000 permits. I also wish the U.S. Feds would pay more attention to OUR border issues. Although with "one man one vote" demography rules - and the Mexican border will defacto shift northward covering southern Arizona and much more...

#4  my first reaction was this was due to BHO misplaying. BHO, with his muslim world speech (which did not go over well in Israel) and his settlement freeze push (which fails to distinguish Jerusalem from the West bank, and seems soft on pushing the arabs for concessions) has very low approval ratings in Israel. So Bibi felt he had nothing to lose, and much to gain domestically.

But this AM Haaretz says most of these units had already had permits, but not final construction permits. So maybe its not as big a deal as has been made out.

#2  On the down side, there will be massive south of the border migration to Israel.
