Browns Labour beaten by baby of House |
2009-07-25 |
![]() On Friday, the Tories' Chloe Smith ended the Labour's 12-year reign over the position with a majority of over 7,300 votes to become the youngest lawmaker in the House of Commons, the Guardian reported. The defeat has been projected as a considerable setback for the Labor Party, which is already widely accused of 'incompetence' in managing the affairs of state. The by-election was occasioned after the former MP in the office Ian Gibson stood down once the party forbade him from contesting in the next general elections. Ignoring Gibson's popular approval and in a move to show toughness on financial misdemeanors, the party imposed the ban accusing him of redirecting government money into funding a flat, which he reportedly later sold to his daughter at a low price. The defeat, which follows a series of resignations from Brown's government, has not shaken his resolve to continue as prime minister. "No, no! Really. I'm fine." |

#1 Forbidding a member of your own party from running because of serious corruption charges, what a concept! Could we import some of that, please? |
