2009-06-24 |
[Quqnoos] A roadside bomb blast killed three employees of a humanitarian organisation Tuesday in the relatively peaceful Jawzjan province. The improvised explosive device struck a vehicle of the Development and Humanitarian Services for Afghanistan (DHSA) at around 08:00 am in a village Aqcha district, northeast of Shibrghan city, the provincial capital. "This incident occurred in Balahisar area of Aqcha district, as a result three employees of the humanitarian organisation lost their lives," said deputy governor, Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani. No parties including the Taliban militants have claimed responsibility for the attack. It is the first time that aid workers were targeted in the relatively stable northern Afghanistan where Taliban insurgents are struggling to expand their presence. DHSA is an Afghan organisation focusing on humanitarian assistance to support development of civil society through its education and various community development projects in the country. |
