| Wanted criminal flees country |

| A member of a banned organisation, wanted both by the Interior Ministry and the Punjab government, has managed to escape from the country, Daily Times learnt on Tuesday. Imdad Ali Malhi, the resident of a village in Shiekhupura district and a man wanted by authorities for several years, left the country recently to settle in Europe. Reports said Imdad had been in hiding for the past several years in a remote part of Sindh. Following the news of his escape abroad, police raided Imdad's house and detained his 11-year-old son. Imdad had been running a lawyers' panel that provided legal aid to the members of his defunct organisation. In 1997, he had revealed the names of several members of the government that he said were involved in fanning secular violence in the country. Since the accusations, law enforcement agencies had been working to arrest Imdad. |
