2009-05-23
Five suspected members of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf were taken into custody by the National Bureau of Investigation and the police on Wednesday after they were deported from Malaysia.

The five suspects arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The suspects were identified as Mohammad Hatta Haipe, Borhan Mundos, Gulam Mundos, Suffaian Salih and Hasim Talib.

Haipe has a pending arrest warrant in the US and is expected to be extradited soon, according to NBI intelligence chief Ruel Lasala. The other four have local arrest warrants. Borhan Mundos is believed to be the finance officer of the Abu Sayyaf while Salih and Talib were involved in the 2000 Sipadan kidnapping, according to Supt. Winnie Quidato of the PNP Intelligence Office.
