142 BDR men arrested in Sylhet

SYLHET, May 20: RAB and police arrested 142 BDR members at the Sylhet district headquarters of the border guards on on Wednesday morning for their alleged links to the Feb 25-26 mutiny, reports bdnews24.com. Sylhet chief judicial magistrate TM Musa ordered 140 of them into jail after the arrestees were produced before the court. The remaining two accused, sepoy Alamgir Hossain and batman Ruhul Amin, were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital under police custody.

Kotwali police chief Syeduzzaman told bdnews24.com the border guards had been arrested in a sedition case filed on May 17 with the judicial magistrate''s court. They were arrested after the court issued warrant against them.

Police arrested 592 border guards on Monday from Netrokona, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Sunamganj, Moulvibazaar, Khagrhachharhi, Cox's Bazaar, Mymensingh and Jamalpur on charges of sedition pressed after the rebellion. The arrests pushed to the count outside capital Dhaka to over 1,500.

The Bangladesh Rifles on Tuesday published a list of 25 border guards who remained fugitive until May 17 since the Feb 25-26 Peelkhana carnage. The number had been much higher, but many were either arrested or surrendered on their own, BDR public relations officer Md Nurul Huda told bdnews24.com.
