The US military said at least 11 insurgents have been killed in an air strike on their hideout in the south of Diyala province. Military spokesman Major Derrick Cheng on Friday that ground forces searched the site after the strike and found a cache of weapons and parts to build improvised bombs.
It is not yet clear whether civilians were killed in the strike that an Iraqi security official says occurred Thursday morning.
Cheng says the suspected insurgents were hiding near several bunkers south of Balad Ruz, northeast of Baghdad.
