Obama taps new FDA chief |

(Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday picked his new chief of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Margaret Hamburg, 53, the former New York City health commissioner, was nominated to the post. Baltimore Health Commissioner Joshua Sharfstein was chosen to be her principal deputy. Obama also announced a new working group to examine and upgrade food safety laws. "Protecting the safety of our food and drugs is one of the most fundamental responsibilities government has," Obama said in his weekly radio address. |
