North Korea says on full combat readiness
2009-03-10 | |
YEONPYEONG, South Korea - North Korea on Monday said it had put its armed forces on full combat readiness in response to the start of annual military exercises by U.S. and South Korean troops, raising tension on the divided peninsula. In a statement read on state television, a fierce-voiced military official also warned that any attempt to shoot down the long-range missile the reclusive state plans to launch soon would be seen as an act of war. Pyongyang routinely accuses the United States and South Korea of aggressive intentions with the exercises, but the rhetoric this time has been more strident.
U.S. Marines will conduct live-fire drills north of Seoul and within an hour's drive from the border. A U.S. aircraft carrier will take part in the exercises, the U.S. military said.

#9 From the horse's mouth. Nothing they haven't said before about once a week... The U.S. and Puppet Warmongers' DPRK-Targeted War Exercises Assailed Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- Should the U.S. and the south Korean warmongers perpetrate even a slight provocation in the sky, the land and seas, they will not escape resolute and merciless retaliatory blows, warns Minju Joson Monday in a signed commentary blasting them for kicking off the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises throughout south Korea today. The entire land of south Korea has turned into a huge ground for war exercises and the danger of a military conflict is further increasing than ever before on the Korean Peninsula because of the saber rattling which involves armed forces huge enough to fight a war, the commentary notes, and goes on: The prevailing situation clearly indicates who is the arch criminal bringing the danger of a new war, a nuclear war, to the Korean Peninsula. The commentary cites facts to prove that the claim of the U.S. and the puppet warmongers that the above-mentioned military exercises are "annual ones and ones for defense" is nothing but sophism intended to mislead the public opinion. The on-going war maneuvers are aimed at invading the DPRK from A to Z, it holds, and goes on: Now that there are no legal and institutional mechanisms for deterring any accidental case from developing into a war on the Korean Peninsula, even a slight accident that may occur in the course of the above-said war maneuvers may trigger off a new war, a nuclear war. It is as clear as a pikestaff that in that case the war is bound to spill over into the neighboring countries. However, the U.S. and the puppet warmongers started the nuclear war exercises targeted against the DPRK. This is an undisguised challenge to the Korean nation and the world peace-loving people. It is a serious provocation intended to seize the DPRK by force of arms and a deliberate criminal act of straining the situation in Northeast Asia. The U.S. and the puppets seek to pressurize and browbeat the servicepersons and people of the DPRK by force of arms by demonstrating "alliance" and "strength" through the above-said saber rattling and find a way out of the daily deepening internal and external crises. This is, however, a foolish daydream. It is the spirit of the servicepersons and people of the DPRK to react to aggressors' provocation with a thousand-fold retaliation. The U.S. and the Lee group had better bear this in mind and stop the war maneuvers, though belatedly, urges the commentary. |
