Lugar: 'US embargo on Cuba a failure' |

In that case it won't hurt anything to leave it in place, will it? Failure for whom? I must say having it in place hasn't bothered me a bit ... |

#3 Embargo's don't work. The dictator transfers the pain onto his people and then blames us for the misery. Then our "allies" sneak behind our backs and do business. Meanwhile Cubans in the US become a very powerful lobby because of the sugar crops in Florida. Much better to just mock the dictator at every opportunity. |

#2 Lugar [Indiana]. Well if we opened trade to Cuba, the sugar cane flowed filling the gap in the corn syrup sweetener commodities created when Indiana farmers grew corn for fuel. They could still get federal ethanol subsidies, everyone else their sweet fix, and everyone's election coffers would be filled except for the pols from Louisiana. Mor' money, mor' money. |

#1 It's been quite helpful for Louisiana sugarcane growers. Reduces the amount of government subsidy they 'need.' |
