Bridge blast cuts Nato supply to Afghanistan
2009-02-21
NATO supplies to Afghanistan were temporarily suspended as militants blew up a bridge in the Khyber Agency in northwest Pakistan.
It's almost as if someone has a strategy ...
Local officials told our Press TV correspondent on Friday that unknown militants planted three bombs under the Zen Tara Bridge in the Wali Khel area of Khyber Agency. The first bomb detonated destroying the bridge and cutting off all NATO supplies.

After the blast, security forces cordoned off the area and the Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were called to defuse the two other bombs. An FC personnel was injured while he was trying to defuse it. The destruction of the bridge temporarily suspended traffic including NATO supply vehicles. However, after three hours, the security forces made other arrangements and traffic was restored via another route.

#12  remote, word. now if some our key decision makers only had half the sense. and more than likely we would have to bomb ...and then we say "oh well dont say we didnt warn ya!"

#11  A-stan is a waste of blood and treasure. It will never be anything but a shithole. Make some show of "peace", get out, but let them know in very clear terms that if anything happens that can be tied to that area (as if that is going to be difficult) then we will come in and flatten the place (from the air...maybe from space).

#10  well, if the last administration lacked the force of will to do what was necessary, there is no way this one does

#9  How did that work last time?

I don't recall we had a deal last time. Nor had we shown the Taliban what we could do to them. Nor did we fix P-stan. We may have to go back, but next time we should Shermanize the place.

#8  Let's trade Afghanistan to Cuba for a dozen good cigars. It's better than putting up with the Pashtun backstabbing for the next 50 years. Either that, or carve out a "Pashtunistan" from the Pashtun-occupied portions of Afghanistan and Pakistan, and let them kill each other.

#7  And now Obama's people are praising Pakistan's NWFP' sharia-for-peace plan, and holding it up to Afghans. Sharia means: jihad obligations will fall on people. I see dead people.

#5  I don'think this administration understands how to use the military, so I say get out until we get someone that has a plan and knows how to implement it. You can't "wing" a war.

#4  A deal with the Taliban to keep al-Q out of A-stan would be cheaper.

How did that work last time?

#2  Yep, I'm coming around to the idea that a running dawg Capitalist like Mr. Putin might not be a bad counselor for these simple (albeit damn well armed) people.

#1  Get out or make a deal with Putti---and it'll be expensive.
