Sadr bloc to open case against US pact |
2008-12-01 |
![]() The Iraqi cabinet and parliament have endorsed the interim security agreement to extend the presence of US troops in Iraq for another three-year period. The Sadr bloc, who strongly opposes the pact, had earlier vowed to take necessary measures to block the deal, with Influential Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr vowing to re-launch attacks on US troops should they extend their stay in the country. "The Sadrists would not cede their national principles and would continue to seek the independence and full sovereignty of Iraq," he added. The pact has been sent to the Presidential Council for the final approval. |
