The Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested eight persons belonging to Harkatul Mujahideen, a banned religious organisation, Daily Times learnt on Monday.They were arrested between October 20 and 22 in raids in various parts of Karachi, before they could reportedly carry out planned terrorist activities in the city. Sources said that the arrested men were Asad Ahmed, Ali Ahmed Siddiqui, Asim Farman, Imran Yousuf, Tuaqeer, Munir Nasir, Noorul Hassan and Rafaqat Hussain.
They said the men were handed over to the Sohrab Goth Supervisory Police Officer (SPO) Irfan Bahadur on November 1.
Police said the men were arrested from an area near Al-Asif Square, Sohrab Goth and claimed to have recovered around eight kilogramme of explosives and weapons from their possession. According to initial interrogation, the arrested men were reportedly trained in Afghanistan and were plotting terrorist activities in Karachi.
