(AKI) - Sixteen people were injured when a parked car bomb exploded on Thursday as two buses carrying police and soldiers passed by. Eight policemen, three soldiers and five civilians were injured in the explosion. The blast took place in the district of Konak in the western province of Izmir."Our assessment is that the explosion was caused by plastic explosives detonated by remote control," Izmir Governor Cahit Kirac was quoted as saying by state-run Anatolian news agency. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The blast follows a previous one on Tuesday, when a suicide bomber detonated explosives at a checkpoint in the southern province of Mersin as police tried to stop the car on a highway. At least 12 police officers were injured in the blast.
