2008-08-18 |
A protest demonstration was held against the military operation in Bajaur here on Monday. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman gave the province-wide call for protest demonstrations. The demonstrators marched from Jamia Hadia, Gulbahar, to Ring Road, carrying banners and placards with messages against Bajaur offensive. The JUI-F leaders alleged that the operation was launched to please the US and that the civilians were being targeted under its garb. They demanded immediate halt to the operation. They accused Awami National Party (ANP) of becoming a tool in the hands of Americans and lashed out at the party leadership for not protecting life and property of Pakhtuns. JUI-F leaders Maulana Rahat Hussain, Amanullah Haqqani, Hafiz Akhtar Ali, Khalid Waqar Chamkani and Haji Jalil Jan were prominent among the speakers. The demonstrators later dispersed peacefully. |
