#7 Afghan hounds, also known as Baluchi hounds, according to Wikipedia, are an ancient breed. link Seafarious, your theory is very plausible. Winsome boys and winsome dogs are a classic combination. |

#6 I've had a theory for a while that the fatwa on dogs was the 7th century version of a ban on handguns. Big Mo expressly forbade the storage and use of dogs in the home, but made some allowances for the herding-type and flock-watching dogs. Kinda like allowing shotguns for the hunter-voters today. Dogs could make it inconvenient for a successful jihad, 'specially when it came to divvying up the wimminz and winsome young boys, dogs being the protective type, y'know. |

#1 No dogs allowed? Better have a talk with the Bedouins, then. The Saluki has been the prized companion of the Bedouin tribes for 7,000 years--it's the oldest known pure breed of dog. Wikipedia says:The breed is treasured by the Bedouin for the white spot on the dog's chest. The Bedouin value them, breeding them for both beauty and hunting qualities. A saluki, instead of being viewed as unclean, often sleeps in tents with their owners, to be protected from the heat of the day and the cold of the night. |
