The Taliban Tanzeem-e-Karwan, a wing of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) headed by Haji Naimatullah, has established Qazi courts at Salarzai tehsil in the Bajaur Agency and started disposing of cases under Shariah law. Spokesman Muhammad Yasir told reporters from an undisclosed location that the Taliban had setup two Qazi courts in Salarzai and were resolving cases that had been pending in courts for months and years within a week. He said that Tanzeem chief Haji Naimatullah established the courts on the appeals of locals seeking timely solutions to their problems. Yasir said that the Qazi courts were being run by five religious scholars and were announcing verdicts in accordance with Shariah. He said tribesmen were submitting their cases in great numbers since the courts had begun operations.
Area residents told Daily Times that the establishment of the Qazi courts was a good step for the provision of easy justice. They said the establishment of the courts allowed them to gain justice without resorting to influential contacts. They also said that they were satisfied with the method by which the courts were deciding their cases in accordance with Shariah.
