Oregon Man Tries to Fly to Idaho on Helium Balloon-Rigged Lawn Chair
2008-07-06

Riding a green lawn chair supported by a rainbow array of more than 150 helium-filled party balloons, Kent Couch took off Saturday in a third bid to fly from central Oregon all the way to Idaho.
'Tis the season to be goofy. We have this kind of story around this time every year, all of a piece with the Nathan's hotdawg eating contest. I guess that's why they call it "silly season."

#4  Ironically "Couch" is an English word for seat.

#3  Yup! This is his third try. The first was a bailout, the second he was just shy of the Oregon/Idaho border, this time is well inside Idaho. Not something I would do but he seems to have put some thought into the stunt. Ballast, parachute, gps/locater, radio commo, aircraft escort. Not at all the same as the twit in SoCal.

Makes you wonder about the gal that married him. It must be love.
