| (VOI) - At least 16 persons were killed and 18 others were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up near Sinjar police department, west of Mosul, a police source said on Thursday. "A suicide bomber blew up an explosive belt strapped to his body targeting a group of police volunteers near the Sinjar police department, west of Mosul, killing 16 and injuring 18," the source, who asked to be unnamed, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq (VOI). Sinjar police chief sacked in light of bombing (VOI) – The Iraqi Minister of Interior ordered the removal of Sinjar police chief from his position in light of the blast that took place earlier today and left dozens of people killed or wounded, an official spokesman for the ministry said on Thursday. "Interior Minister Jawad al-Bulani ordered the dismissal of Sinjar police chief, Awad al-Surji, and called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the bombing that occurred today in the district," Maj. Gen. Abdul Kareem Khalaf told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). "The ministry has ordered Ninewa police chief to appoint an acting police chief for Sinjar until the investigation is complete," Khalaf added. Earlier today, Iraqi authorities said that at least 16 persons were killed and 18 others were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up near Sinjar police department. |
