(VOI) – Two Iraqi army soldiers were killed, three others were wounded and 28 wanted persons and suspects were captured during security operations throughout the past 24 hours in different parts of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad's operations command said on Wednesday.

"In al-Karkh, 10 wanted individuals were arrested, four explosive devices were defused and a large amount of arms, ammunition, and explosives were seized," according to a statement released by the command and received by Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). "In al-Rasafa, 11 wanted persons were captured and a suspect was detained. A total of 37 explosive charges were defused and large amounts of arms, ammunition and explosives were discovered," the statement added.

In Baghdad's suburbs, another six wanted persons were arrested and 10 improvised explosive charges were defused. A number of medium and heavy arms were seized, the statement noted. "During the operations, two army soldiers were killed and three others were injured," the statement added.

Since mid-February 2007, Iraqi security forces have been conducting a wide-scale security operation, codenamed Fardh al-Qanoon (Law Imposing), with the aim of tracking down armed groups and outlaws in Baghdad and surrounding areas.
