108 detainees freed in Mosul
2008-05-25
(VOI)- Security authorities released 108 detainees from Iraqi detention centers through the Ninewa police department after proving that they were not involved in any criminal acts, the chief of local police said on Thursday morning.

"The Ninewa police freed 108 inmates, who were detained during the military operations LionÂ’s Roar and Umm al-Rabeain (City of Two Springs) that started in the province two weeks ago after they were proved not guilty of involvement in any crime," Brigadier Khaled Hussein al-Hamdani told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). Last Monday, 151 detainees were also set free from the detention centers in Ninewa after being acquitted from any criminal involvement. On May 7, a large-scale military operation was launched and overseen by the Iraqi Prime Minister Nousri al-Maliki in and around Mosul, capital city of Ninewa province, northern Iraq, in hunt for armed groups particularly those linked to Qaeda Organization.
