Political parties condemn Bajaur attack
2008-05-16
Condemning the Wednesday night missile attack in Damadola area of Bajaur Agency, political parties termed it a brazen violation of the geographical and ideological frontiers of Pakistan.

The parties were unanimous in their views that the fresh ‘US attack’ points to the US’ sheer disregard towards international law and was ‘naked interference’ in internal affairs of the country.

In their comments, the parties advised the central government to “throw away the cloak of leniency” towards the United States and ensure stoppage of such incidents in future.

In his comments, NWFP Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the Awami National Party (ANP) strongly condemned the airstrike in Bajaur. “No country should be allowed to violate the geographical borders of another country,” he said. “ANP has always opposed aggression whether it is in the case of Afghanistan, India or our own homeland,” he added.

Provincial chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq said his party would observe Friday as ‘black day’ to protest the ‘US missile attack’ and killing of ‘innocent civilians’ in Bajaur.

Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, the JI leader demanded the government expel the US envoy. He also urged religious scholars to instil the spirit of jihad into the people.

“To what use are the atom bomb, more than one million army or scores of aircrafts when we can’t stop a country from violating our geographical frontiers and killing our people,” he questioned.

Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party Sherpao (PPP-S) Aftab Sherpao said: “We condemn the killing of a number of people in Bajaur as a result of American missile attack.”

He said the attack was a sheer violation of the national sovereignty of the country. “The rampant US air strikes on Pakistani soil are reflecting its total disregard towards international law and norms,” said the former Interior minister.

Without naming any one, Sherpao said certain political parties had pledged to stop the ‘bloodshed’ of Pashtuns, but the series of such acts continued unabated despite the fact that those people were in the corridor of power then.

#2  Go ahead, piss off the US. THEN watch us while we pound your sorry a$$es into the dust, and blow away the dust. You are aiding our enemies. We SHOULD respond by crushing your little pissant country so badly it disappears. A McCain presidency may do that...
