At least eight Afghan police have been killed and seven others wounded in two separate militant attacks in southern Afghanistan. Taliban militants opened fire on anti-drugs Afghan policemen, who were destroying poppy-cultivated fields, in Maiwand district of Kandahar province, killing four police, provincial police chief Sayed Agha Saqib said Sunday. He said some Taliban militants were also killed in the firefight but could not say the exact figure.
Separately, in Gereshk district of Helmand province, Taliban militants ambushed a police vehicle overnight and killed four officers and wounded seven, district police Chief Khair Mohammad Sheja said.
