The Chakwal police said on Wednesday that they had arrested a suicide bomber and seized eight kilogrammes of explosive material and other bomb devices from him.Chakwal District Police Officer Maqsood Khan told a press conference here that police, on a tip-off, raided a house in the village of Thoha Mehram Khan and arrested Abdul Ghafoor. “Ghafoor has confessed to have had a plan to kill former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Chakwal District Nazim Sardar Ghulam Abbas at a public meeting that was to be held in Talagang,” the DPO said, adding that the meeting had been postponed in the wake of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s killing in Rawalpindi.
Maqsood said Ghafoor and his companions were now planning to attack Muharram processions in Chakwal and Talagang. He said 23-year-old Ghafoor was a member of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Harkatul Mujahideen. “He also has links with the terrorist group that attacked a Pakistan Air Force bus in Sargodha last year,” the DPO said.
