Taxachusetts Turns Mean
2008-01-01
Penalties for Massachusetts residents who can afford health insurance but do not purchase it in 2008 could quadruple compared with the maximum penalty in 2007, according to draft regulations released by the Department of Revenue yesterday.

The maximum penalty for those who flout the law and do not buy health insurance would be $912 a year, compared to $219 in 2007.

The higher penalty is intended to get those who are on the fence to buy health insurance. For those wavering, it could make more sense to pay for insurance than to pay the penalty.

#7  Another nail in Romney's coffin or should be. He pushed for this pig of legislation.

#6  Hey, had a thought..since it is now fashionable to be against people like myself, and since my lineage was not 'officially invited here', could I call myself an illegal immigrant and get the benefits?

(not serious of course, but had to take this level of discourse seriously)

#4  Is this for real, required by law to have health insurance? Auto liability I understand but this? Also, is this the same state which asks kids whether their parents have guns? Better keep this crap in New England, or better yet get rid of it.

#3  You are right, Frank. But if we could get the illegal situation under control, I think that this could be a good idea if administered farily and correctly. We have to do something to get health insurance under control and looking to auto insurance might be a good way of approaching it.

We pay for the illegals in decreased cost of goods. Of course low cost housing cost housing, health insurance, law inforcement, bad schools and other related expenses cost us, the taxpayers, way more than a few cents per head of lettuce. Not to mention the moral issues of keeping an entire percentage of our population in a sub-citizen status. But if we COULD get the illegal situation to end {big could) then I think something like this could actual help prevent the rise of state controlled health care.
