Two more members of the outlawed Harkat-ul-Jihad (Huji) outfit yesterday confessed to having taken part in the grisly grenade attacks on an Awami League rally that killed 24 people on August 21, 2004. Meantime, another Huji activist, Abu Taher, was placed on a two-day fresh remand for interrogation in the case.Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Shahin Uddin recorded the confessional statements of Abul Kalam Azad and Jahangir Alam Bulbul, the Huji bigots, after investigation officer Fazlul Kabir, also an assistant superintendent of police at Criminal Investigation Department, produced them before the court following a 10-day remand. Details of their confessions, however, could not be known.
The same police official produced Abu Taher before another court on completion of a three-day remand and appealed for another 10-day extension of it, securing a two-day remand.
Earlier Huji chief Mufti Abdul Hannan, his brother Mohibullah alias Mojibur Rahman and their accomplices stated to the court that they orchestrated the attacks to kill Awami League President Sheikh Hasina only. The ghastly attacks also injured at least 300 people. Mufti Hannan was arrested at his rented house in the city's Madhya Badda neighbourhood on October 1, 2005.
