KHOST, Afghanistan - Taleban insurgents shot dead an Afghan man for teaching English, triggering a shootout that left two militants and two policemen dead, a government official said on Thursday. The murdered man had been running English language courses in the eastern province of Paktia on the border with Pakistan, an area troubled by Taleban extremists who follow an ideology that is opposed to the West.“According to locals, he had received several warnings in the past to close down the course and to stop teaching English to people,” Paktia government spokesman Din Mohammad Darwish said.
WednesdayÂ’s gun battle erupted when police came to the scene, leaving two dead on either side.
