Scumbag arrested in desecration of Marine's grave
2007-10-25
The motive was to steal some 25 wire stands that had held the floral arrangements and some other items that could be reused and sold to a floral shop
LIBERTY, TX — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the desecration of the grave here of a 22-year-old hometown hero, a U.S. Marine, who died in Iraq. According to investigators, neither an anti-war activist nor prankster was behind the damage to Lance Corp. Jeremy Burris' grave about 30 miles east of Houston. About 25 floral arrangements, flags and notes were shredded within hours after his burial on Oct. 16.

The motive was to steal some 25 wire stands that had held the floral arrangements and some other items that could be reused and sold to a floral shop. The recycled stands are bought for $1.50 each, authorities said.

Wallace DeBlanc, 41, was arrested at his home on County Road 145 in Liberty about 11 p.m. Wednesday without incident, police said. He is charged with a state jail felony, criminal mischief to a place of human burial.

Police Chief Mike Cummings said the suspect had not known Burris nor intentionally picked on his grave. Details will be released at a press conference at 2 p.m. at Liberty City Hall.

More than a thousand residents of this small town turned out to wave flags and line the streets to show support on the day Burris was buried on Oct. 16. Many were furious when they learned what had happened at the grave site. Burris was killed Oct. 8 by an explosive device in al-Anbar Province. Minutes before his death, he rescued two soldiers wounded when a device exploded under their military vehicle. When Burris returned to the vehicle to retrieve some sensitive equipment, another bomb detonated, killing him, his family said.

#8  Crack Head, he'd steal drugs from his dying mother... useless parasite with no potential and certainly NOT WORTH Incarcerating. Stake him in the ground at the nearest alligator farm.

#5  #2" "Community service tending the graves perhaps?"

I wouldn't let that worthless bastard within 500 feet of any graveyard, particularly one with military graves.

Stick his sorry ass in jail, and when he gets out, require his "community service" to be cleaning out bedpans at a local nursing home.

Under guard, lest he try to steal the bedpans.
