Qatari soldiers fly to Lebanon within UNIFIL mandate
2007-10-02
You remember UNIFIL, don't you? It was in all the papers...
The fourth installment of the Qatari contingent in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) left Doha Monday on their way to South Lebanon to serve there under the multi-national peacekeeping force.

"The group consists of 100 soldiers," Assistant Qatari Chief of Staff for Operations and Training Air Marchal Ghanem Bin Shahine Al-Ghanem, who saw the soldiers off at Doha Airport, told reporters in a statement at the airport.
He said another group will depart to the same destination on October 10. "The Qatari contingent in UNIFIL is doing its job in a near perfect manner, " he said. He added that Qatari soldiers are "highly respected in south Lebanon." He stressed that he had gathered this impression while on tour in South Lebanon prior to the start of the Ramadhan holy month. He pointed out that Qatari soldiers, in addition to their military tasks, "are involved in humanitarian aid activities." He added that the Qatari contingent consists of 205 soldiers all told and they are doing their job in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
