Germany Paves Way for First Census in 20 Years |

#1 Privacy concerns... in Germany? This is a state where you have to be licensed to blink rapidly, and loafing about is constrained by guild regulations. How could a country with such an exquisitely complex and all-encompassing system of labor regulation *not* have regularly updated census information? By not calling it that, and not letting the press or the politicians have access to the databases, that's how. How exactly have they been apportioning their political representation, I wonder? I fear the answer is "a combination of medieval, archaic geographical distinctions based on long-defunct decisions dating back to the occupation (perhaps even to before WWI!) and smoky-back-room decision-making which would make Boss Tweed sigh in admiration". |
