(SomaliNet) The mayor of Beledweyn city, 335km north of the Somalia capital, Elmi Saney Qasim has spoken out on Thursday a grenade explosion, which targeted his convoy inside the city overnight saying it was an attempt on his life. Speaking to the local media, Mr. Saney said it was an organized bomb attack aimed to destroy his vehicle as he was on the way of his house. He had survived from the attack but the explosion wounded three of his bodyguards. “I was not on the car when the explosion happened, I was in my house, the bomb was thrown to my bodyguards just after they brought me in my house, three of the soldiers got injured,” said the mayor.
He said they are now conducting investigations over the last night’s attack. “The security forces will soon find the perpetrators and they will be brought before justice,” Mr. Saney said the latest bomb attack had links with the 9 September roadside explosion that targeted motorcade escorting the region’s governor.
After the blast, the soldiers opened fire in all directions. No one was arrested for the latest attack so far.
