(SomaliNet) Somalia police spokesman Abdi Wahid Mohamed Hussein said on Wednesday the security forces killed eight of the local insurgents and restored the situation normal after several hours of gun battle inside MogadishuÂ’s Bakara market. Mr. Mohamed told the local media that three soldiers were also wounded in the raid which caused business suspension all the day. This morning, the residents woke up with the sounds of explosions and gunfire when the police with two battlewagons raided a house inside the market where the government said it was a hideout for Islamist leader who wages the war in the capital. Seven civilians were reported died and dozens more wounded in the latest clashes. 35 wounded people were admitted at the Medina hospital, according to the medical sources.
It was the deadliest gun battle since the reconciliation congress ended in Mogadishu last week. The government forces blocked all roads in and out of Bakara market to keep an eye to the movement of the local insurgents.
