Attack aviation crews from Multi-National Division-Baghdad killed seven insurgents at approximately 12 p.m. July 25 in western Baghdad. The Apache crews from the 4th “Guns” Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, responded to a call from ground forces in contact with the enemy. The forces, from the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, were receiving small arms fire from about 15 insurgents. The insurgents attempted to flee the area in a van when attack aviation arrived. The Apache crews maintained identification of the vehicle and got clearance to fire from the ground forces. The crews engaged the vehicle, destroying it and killing seven insurgents.
