Senate Passes Lieberman Iran Amendment 97-0
2007-07-12
The Lieberman amendment--confronting Iran on its proxy attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq--just passed the Senate unanimously, 97-0.

So let's look at the scorecard this week so far: The Webb amendment on trying to limit Iraq deployments went down to defeat. The Lieberman amendment confronting Iran passed unanimously. So much for the long-predicted collapse--at least so far. There will be some tough votes in the days ahead. Let's hope the Senate Republicans continue to hold the line.

Meanwhile, Senator Lieberman had this to say of the Senate's unanimous vote, confronting Iran:

"Today's unanimous vote sends a strong, clear message from the entire Senate to the Iranians that we know what they are doing in Iraq, and they must stop...This is a warning to the Iranians that whatever differences divide us politically here in Washington, we stand united against these outrageous attacks."

#10  Ever more evidencia that the USA + Iran are moving towards war. ISRAEL > the IDF's timeline of six months to mid-2009 does not preclude Radic Iran from using uranium-based = pre-thermonuke type bombs in TACNUKE MISSLES, besides also TERROR. My reading of the Lieberman Amendment > gives Dubya = USA the Xtra legalist leeway = flexibility to do anything to stop Iran or contain Iran's interference in Iraqi affairs, including but not limited to SSSSSSSSSSHHH
HHHHHHHHHHH, INVADING ANDOR BOMBING IRAN IFF NEED BE. As said before, MOUD IS ESCALATING WHILE DUBYA IS NOT GONNA STOP ENTRENCHING. The Dems know the Radical Islamist agenda is GLOBAL, NOT MERELY REGIONAL, AND THAT AMER HIROSHIMAS/NEW 9-11's WILL EVENTUALLY OCCUR INSIDE AMERICA [+ WESTERN WORLD].

As a message showing unified support maybe there is some value. I would like to see a little "stronger message", some message from above, heh, heh, heh.

#8  Yah, the DoD only has to inform. However, that data will be on the public record. Someone is saying no to indulgence of the Ayatollahs. Power holders should listen.

We need to shake the belief that religion is a source of stability in the Middle East. It isn't. And cleric managed pseudo-democracy is about as useful.

#7  Read the amendment -- it just requires defense to submit reports.

Yes, read the amendment (pdf). It's a Sense of the Senate which details in several pages the Iranian actions that Lieberman is complaining about. And it requires the Multinational Force and the US Ambassador to Iraq to jointly report bimonthy to Congress what Iran is doing in Iraq, what their strategy is, and what we are doing about it.

#3  So for the party of surrender and appeasement, the surrender and appeasement is only symbolic?

They make my head hurt.

#1  I gotta say my jaw dropped at this vote. I kinda thought reading the title it was some good ole Rantburg sarcasm but this is no joke. Even being a hollow symbolic amendment I am still shocked, the KOS kiddies must be spassing out big time.
